Years ago I read Rhonda Byrne's, The Secret. The Power is similar in nature, as it is a book written about the fact that all good things come from love. If we long for something, work for it, visualize it and focus our positive thinking and attention around that thing, it can come true. I loved this line from the book: "I do my best to send love as much as possible [to others]. I know too that whenever I see anyone with a particular need, it's also a message for me to be grateful for money, happiness, and the peace and joy in my life."
Byrne's also touches on how many of us are so busy rushing through life that we miss all of the beautiful things we already have in our lives. She writes: "What difference does it make if you get your clothes into the dry cleaners before they close, really? What difference does it make to your life if your sports team didn't win this week? There's always next week. What difference does it make if you missed the bus? What difference does it make if the grocery store has run out of oranges? What difference does it make if you have to stand in line for a few minutes? In the whole scheme of things, what difference do those little things make?...Small details distract you, and they can sabotage your life. If you give too much importance to unnecessary details, you will not feel good. None of those things matters in the scheme of your life!"
It's so important to take time to do things that make us truly happy. Watching funny movies, reading a good book, listening to upbeat music, telling funny stories or jokes...if it makes you happy, do it! In The Power, Byrne's writes: "Researchers in Japan, Russia, Europe, and the United States have discovered that when water is exposed to positive words and feelings such as love and gratitude, the energy level of the water not only increases, but the structure of the water changes, making it perfectly harmonious." She goes on to talk about how our bodies are made of 70% water (and the inside of our head is 80% water)-- therefore, the potential for love and gratitude to restore health, for example, is astounding. "Scientists at the Institute of HeartMath in California have shown that feeling love, gratitude, and appreciation in your heart boosts your immune system; increases vital chemical production; increases physical vitality and vigor; reduces stress hormone levels, high blood pressure, anxiety, guilt, and burnout; and improves glucose regulation in diabetics Feelings of love also create a higher degree of harmony in the rhythm of your heart...the magnetic field of the heart is 5,000 times more powerful than the magnetic field of the brain, and reaches out several feet from our body."
I enjoyed The Power. If you enjoy positive motivational books, I recommend it. I rated it 4-stars.
