Learning to Breathe Fire: The Rise of CrossFit and the Primal Future of Fitness, by J.C. Herz is a great read for the fitness/CrossFit enthusiast. The author is a veteran journalist and delves into explaining the science of maximum effort and the psychology behind pushing ourselves physically. Herz also explains why "the modern gym fails an obese society..." The book shares CrossFit's quick rise. The concept of this primal fitness routine started in a single underground gym and began to spread to firefighters, cops and the military.
Herz introduces us to CrossFit's "star athletes" and demonstrates how CrossFit embraces people of all fitness levels who are interested in improving their health and well-being.
If you are interested in trying CrossFit or if you're an avid CrossFit athlete who enjoys reading, this book will be for you. I rated the book 4-stars.
