Rocky is a Norway Spruce tree who has a big dream! What is that dream? He wants to become the famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree! In Jennie E. Nicassio's children's book, Rocky The Rockefeller Christmas Tree, Nicassio shares the story of Rocky and the journey he takes to reach his goal. This is such a big goal for Rocky that he feels it may be impossible. Rocky, himself, is a sapling and he's competing with robust evergreens. He's not the biggest or the strongest tree. Yet, he still wants to try. Rocky is determined. He is flawed, not perfect - just as we all are.  I always love books whose characters have dreams and work to reach them!

Book Review: The Grumpface, by B.C.R. Fegan

The Grumpface written by B.C.R. Fegan tells the story of Dan, an inventor who ventures into a forest looking for a rose. Instead he finds the mysterious Grumpface who threatens to hold him captive unless he passes some difficult challenges.

This inspiring fairy tale is about a clumsy young inventor’s quest for love, and the challenges he must face to find it. But it is also a tale of bravery, absurdity and happiness, and the power of these qualities over negativity and sheer grumpiness. The book is wonderful and full of terrific illustrations too. I love the rhymes and rhythm of the book, too!

Book Type: Fiction - Children's/Intermediate Readers

Summary:
A Magical Illustrated Fairy Tale with morals, environmental values, and self confidence for girls. Set in Sydney Australia.

The Adventures of Lola, by Jade Harley is a wonderful book for children's intermediate readers. The cover and the interior of the book boast beautiful illustrations by the talented Craig Phillips. I loved the story, too. Lola is 13 years old. She loves running, jumping, climbing and changing her hair color. She also loves adventure! Lola shares a thought about her mom: "I knew she secretly quite enjoyed my feisty spirit (although she'd never admit it to my dad)." Lola's two amazing friends, Jet and Allie are by her side and together they enjoy living life to the fullest.

Review: The Bridge of Golden Wood, by Karl Beckstrand

Book Type:
Children's - Parable - Money & Saving
Summary:
An inspirational and educational children's parable on how to earn money.

Let me start off by saying, I love parables. Karl Beckstrand has done a wonderful job and the illustrations by Yaniv Cahoua are gorgeous. The Bridge of the Golden Wood: A Parable on How to Earn Money is a beautiful book on how to be useful and to help others. It is a book on how doing good for others will enrich your life in many ways.

The Bridge of the Golden Wood: A Parable on How to Earn Money, is a fast-paced children's story (ages 5 and up). It's a tale about a child with a knack for solving problems. The child helps some hungry fish and finds a treasure. The story is also full of good reminders for adults, too! Help others. If you see a problem that needs fixed, use your strength and gifts to fix it. Follow your own path and good things will come. Turn hobbies (what you enjoy doing and what you're meant to do) into treasure. Live your best life.

The book is Karl Beckstrands 18th. I love that the author included extra activities and money-making ideas for children at the end of the book (e.g. ideas for businesses and resources on finding customers and managing money).
