Book Review: Triumph - The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler's Olympics, by Jeremy Schaap9/29/2017
Buy the book: Amazon Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler's Olympics, by Jeremy Schaap is an interesting read. I'm always a fan of athletic stories and stories about the Olympics. The book is well-written and I learned a lot about Jesse Owens. The book shares Jesse's story from childhood through running at the 1936 Olympics- set against a backdrop of swastikas. Owens won an amazing four gold medals and "single-highhandedly demonstrated demonstrated that Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy was a lie." Not only do we learn about Jesse himself, but we learn about his family, too. Many stories of Jesse were included in the book that I hadn't read previously. The story was very interesting, however, I rated the book 3-stars as I felt the story's pace was slow at various points. Schaap is a strong writer and I appreciated his efforts to share what really happened during the 1936 Olympics.
