The Rumor, by Elin Hilderbrand is a captivating beach read. I've read several books by this author and have loved some while others I have not enjoyed much. The Rumor is one I enjoyed and recommend if you're looking for a gossip-type novel. It's a great summer read that will grab your attention from the first to last page.
In the book, Madeline and Grace have a friendship that is tested. Similar to other Hilderbrand books, The Rumor is set in Nantucket. Madeline is a writer who's deadlines are looming and who is having a difficult time producing her next book. Grace works hard at her garden which is hailed as the envy of the island. She becomes extra close with her landscape architect; a relationship that soon begins to transform her life in good and bad ways. Gossip spreads fast across the small Nantucket island and rumors are flying about Madeline, Grace...and others. But what happens when the truth is more difficult than the rumors? What happens when a long term friendship is threatened because of choices made?
I rated the book 4-stars. The story held my attention from start to finish and was well-written. The pacing was good and the characters were well developed. If you're looking for a good beach read, I recommend The Rumor!
