My exclusive author interview with Jade Harley, HERE The Adventures of Lola, by Jade Harley is a wonderful book for children's intermediate readers. The cover and the interior of the book boast beautiful illustrations by the talented Craig Phillips. I loved the story, too. Lola is 13 years old. She loves running, jumping, climbing and changing her hair color. She also loves adventure! Lola shares a thought about her mom: "I knew she secretly quite enjoyed my feisty spirit (although she'd never admit it to my dad)." Lola's two amazing friends, Jet and Allie are by her side and together they enjoy living life to the fullest. Lola often gets in trouble, whether it’s with her parents, who find her rich imagination a bit tiresome, or at school, where the teachers see her as being far too dramatic. But despite this, Lola knows she is meant to do more in life. So when Lola and her friends realize that something bad is about to strike their town, they gather their strengths and are determined to solve the mystery. Little by little, Lola realizes that her life is actually quite magical. Lola decides one day to keep a journal of her progress as she learns new things (i.e., she is learning to communicate with animals, mind reading, and other amazing talents). Lola explains: "Overall I was pretty happy with my progress, it was amazing how quickly things that seemed really hard on the first day became second nature." I love how Lola shows kids that dedication, persistence and having a goal pay off. I also love how the story promotes the beauty of nature. There are so many elements I enjoyed about the book. I rated the book 5-stars and highly recommend it. Another favorite aspect of The Adventures of Lola is that Lola tells the readers that everyone has the ability to do amazing things. I love this message. We all have greatness inside of us.
