This week's book review, Break Into Journalism: Contact Building Tools and Tactics, written by Johannes Koch is an excellent guide to those aspiring to break into the business of journalism.  Koch has written a thorough, quick read with specific strategies to help build and maintain contacts in the industry.

Though I am not a journalist, I can respect how difficult it must be to approach strangers and ask them thought-provoking and meaningful questions in a very short window of time.  The author discusses strategies to not only approach strangers but provides relatable information that will allow a new or even experienced journalist to put insecurities at bay during an interview.  This book is highly recommended for those who are new to journalism, those who are considering a career change to journalism, and I believe even an experienced journalist can gain insight from this book, even as a refresher for the industry.

What Others are Saying

"This is the most direct and useful guide for aspiring journalists I have ever come across. Breaking into journalism, as the cover suggests, takes some degree of grit and gumption, and this book provides some great signposts."

"Clearly a knowledgeable insight from someone who has been in the business and knows the ins and outs of the journalist business. Amazing he went from too shy to strike up a conversation with almost anyone to an out going business journalist. If he can do it anyone can. Great guide and way to jump start your career if wanting to go into journalism."
