Buy the book: Amazon Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, by Trevor Noah is an interesting read (I listened to the audiobook version, read by Noah himself!). Trevor Noah is the most successful comedian in Africa and is the host of the Emmy and Peabody Award–winning The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Born in South Africa to a black South African mother and a white European father, Noah has hosted numerous television shows including South Africa’s music, television, and film awards and two seasons of his own late night talk show, Tonight with Trevor Noah. From apartheid South Africa "...Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle." Trevor was an impish and restless boy in his childhood. He set fires and was fascinated with knives. He was fearless and rebellious and loved his mother very much. His mother was determined to save Trevor from a life of poverty, violence and abuse. Trevor's stories are heartbreaking, while others are hilarious and had me chuckling out loud. I rated the book 3 stars due to several factors. I felt the pace lagged at times. Also violence is contained in the book and some parts are hard to read. However, Trevor has a wonderful sense of humor and hearing his story was very interesting.
