This weeks book review is Amazing Heights: How Short Guys Stand Tall by Seth Ulinski. Before I delve into the actual review for this book, I want to say one of my favorite parts of reviewing books is reading about topics that I have never considered. I enjoy not only expanding my knowledge base but I love reading about topics that aren't mainstream. That being said, Ulinski's book, Amazing Heights, was one of those reads that made me think about a topic that I, as a female, would have never considered an issue for males.
From start to finish, I thoroughly enjoyed the authors ability to convey the issues "short" men have to face as well as his ability to keep the reader interested. Amazing Heights was not a woe is me portrayal of vertically challenged men, but an inspirational read for those men who despite their size, are able to achieve great feats. I highly recommend this book for anyone, as the topic and writing were phenomenal throughout the book.
What Others are Saying
"Whether it was the behavioral and historical roots of heightism, real life underdog examples in the realm of height, or tips on how the vertically challenged can give themselves an edge, Ulinkski kept the subject interesting and engaging. I was surprised on the depth of real world research and information that was provided."
"After the author tears up the myth that male shortness indicates less power, he develops a reassuring tone as he advises ways to compensate for smaller stature: actions to take, clothes to wear and attitudes to adapt. This is a compelling look at the way societal bias hurts others, yet there is no tone of self-pity in the book."
