"I am a proud father to five amazing children and a grandfather of seven. I own and operate a group of education based companies including:
• Paul Cummings World Wide Enterprises
• Steam Society
• Level 10 UK, LTD
• Free To Bounce
• Wildwood Valley Inn and Retreat Center
For the last 33 years of my life I have travelled the World as a corporate speaker and consultant. Our organization has delivered over 5,000 live events to Companies from the Fortune 50 to small businesses spanning the globe. Our Mission has never changed as we are “Changing Lives through Dynamic Instruction”.
When did I know I wanted to be a writer?
I began writing formally in my mid-twenties as I began my career as a public speaker. Creating meaningful content was a key objective of mine and the process of writing was the first step in this journey. I loved the creative concept of blending stories, experiences and process into compelling content that would impact audiences through my presentations and supporting materials.
My Journey to being a published author…
I published my first book 25 years ago with Random House entitled “Lessons at the Fencepost”. This book was a collection of life lessons I had learned from my grandfather. The book has impacted my audiences all over the world. We decided to self-publish several books over the last two decades with a focus on leadership strategies. We made the decision to work with Wiley Press for the release of It All Matters as we felt they were the perfect partner for this book. We are excited about the partnership and believe the book will have a major impact on anyone who immerses themselves in the lessons contained in the book.
What is the biggest challenge of being an author?
From my viewpoint, I believe the biggest challenge is directly tied to creating a story that both engages and informs the reader. I love to write and actually write every day as a part of my daily routine. Selecting the perfect story, quote and experience is always challenging when developing a manuscript. Creating a journey that people want to take as the words flow from each page is paramount to the success of a narrative. I always write with the audience in mind and have one major goal, to make a difference to each person I engage with through my writing.
What do you find most rewarding as an author?
I have always been inspired by the opportunity to impact people in a positive way. Over the last four decades the letters I have received from thousands of people thanking me for making a difference in their life’s journey are what I have treasured most about the creative aspects of writing. On a personal level, writing is a powerful creative outlet that I find imaginative and inspiring. The act of writing is energizing and uplifting and has been the birthplace of my goals and dreams.
My daily habits for the process of achieving goals…
It All Matters is one of the most comprehensive books ever written regarding goal setting. Goals are the stepping stones to our dreams and serve to guide behavior and inform choice. I have a dedicated morning routine in relationship to achieving my goals. I spend time every day reviewing my most important goals. I use the power of ‘I will’ affirmations to firmly place the goals in my mind’s eye. I set timelines for all my goals and create detailed plans of action for each goal. I create visualization boards for my goals and make certain these stay firmly placed in my daily mindset. Goals serve as a power plant for enthusiasm, excitement and energy when they are embraced as meaningful commitments.
What advice would I give any author?
Find your voice and then make certain you stay authentic in your approach to any subject. Follow these guidelines:
• Understand who you are
• Be true to yourself
• Uniqueness is truth in the wri4en word
• Write every day and schedule the time to practice the art of writing
I am most grateful for... my family. I have two incredible parents, five amazing children and 7 inspiring grandchildren.
I am grateful for my friends and team members who have added so much value to my life.
I am grateful to my students who have provided me the opportunity to live a life of intention and purpose.
I am grateful for the opportunity to leave it better than I have found it every day.
IF I could give my 18 year old self one piece of advice it would be... to save 20% of every dollar you make and live below your means. Remember life is a gift and operate daily with an attitude of gratitude. Be true to yourself and stay humble as you live each day.
My favorite thing about being a writer is... the chance to make a difference to someone else.
My least favorite thing about being a writer is... the pursuit of perfection can sometimes be paralyzing to the process.
• My goals for the future are many but here are a few of the most important goals:
• Impact disadvantaged youth through STEAM BASED education initiatives such as Tech Town and Steam Society.
• Write 10 more books on my favorite topics that find a global audience.
• Travel the world and speak to young people and provide them with the inspiration they need to truly believe in their ability to achieve their goals and dreams.
I love living a creative life because... creativity is the purest form of personal freedom. To be creative is to trust your own spirit and live a life of genuine expression. Creativity is when your mind and heart are operating in concert to produce magical moments and experiences.
The last book I read was... Originals. A dynamic and compelling book filled with great stories and thought provoking ideas.
My favorite book is... still, The Greatest Salesman in The World by Og Mandino because it greatly impacted my life at a very young age.
Outside of writing my favorite hobby is... to express myself through abstract art. I love to paint and find immense joy in the process.
The most important thing you must do if you wish to reach your goals is... to tie the smallest of required activities to the power of your big dream. Every step you take is important because “It All Matters”.
